The Isle of Wedmore Bus

LOCAL TRANSPORT is organised by The Isle of Wedmore Rural Transport Association

THESE SERVICES OPERATE ONLY FOR PRE-BOOKED PASSENGERS

How does it work?

The bus will start from The Borough (see timetable) and will proceed to WESTON-SUPER-MARE (1st & 3rd Tuesdays), TAUNTON (2nd & 4th Tuesdays), BRIDGWATER (Wednesdays), WESTON-SUPER-MARE (Thursdays) or GLASTONBURY and STREET (Fridays).

The initial routes out of the village are fairly flexible and thus it will usually be possible to collect people from the Wedmore hamlets at some stage of each trip (in some instances before the advertised time from The Borough).

EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO PICK UP AND SET DOWN PASSENGERS FROM THEIR OWN FRONT DOORS.

How to book

Simply phone the appropriate controller between 6:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on the evening before the bus runs to your desired destination and ask for a seat to be booked for you. The controller will advise you when to expect the bus.

Sedgemoor or Mendip District concessionary fare passes are accepted

Who runs the service?

The Isle of Wedmore Rural Transport Association, under the guidance of Somerset County Council and Wedmore Parish Council, is responsible for the operation of the service. The Committee and the team of drivers are all unpaid volunteers.

Is the Bus available for hire?

The bus is available for hire by local organisations. For details on prices please ring Mrs. Hennessey on (01934) 712144. As drivers are all volunteers, each group wishing to use the bus should, if possible, arrange for one of their members to be placed on the list of authorised drivers.

The drivers and vehicle

To ensure that proper safety standards are achieved and maintained all the volunteer drivers will have passed a special County Council Community Bus Driving Test. The sixteen seater bus is built to public service vehicle standards and will be rigorously maintained under County Council supervision.

And finally...

Do remember that the whole scheme depends on the coninuing support of volunteers, and if you would like to help - particularly as a driver - we would be glad to hear from you. Please contact a committee member.

Supported by Somerset County Council.
